Justice for James Power
Welcome to this website which aims to show that a man convicted of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, is the victim of a miscarriage of justice.
Since this campaign was established, James Power and Graham Huckerby have had their convictions quashed. However, this website will remain online so that teh public realise miscarriages of justice do take place. The text has not been altered since the convictions were quashed and the decision taken not to order another retrial. Please take a look at the facts so that you are aware of the problems of miscarriages of justice. I hope this case will lead to reform so that mistakes are less likely to occur in the future.
James was convicted alongside Graham Huckerby in a retrial. The evidence against both men was incredibly tenuous, yet they were convicted on 14 March 2002, and were sentenced to fourteen years imprisonment.
The robbery they allegedly plotted was one of the largest to have ever taken place in Europe, with £6.6 million having been seized.
Did the police get the right men?
The identities of the armed raiders who stole this large sum of money were never determined. None of the money has ever been traced.
The police had to find someone because so much money had been taken. it would have been a huge embarrassment if no one was held to account for the crime. How could the police explain such a failure if no convictions occurred? As has been said, the raiders were never found (James and Graham were certainly not the raiders) so the police have still failed. but as convictions have been made they can relax far more despite the fact the money has not been recovered and the criminals are still at large.
They sought a scapegoat and they got two scapegoats; James Power and Graham Huckerby.
Whilst this site has been created to support James Power, it is essential to also discuss Graham as well, because the two were convicted together and it was claimed they had conspired together. Graham Huckerby has a support group; 'The Friends Of Graham Huckerby'. James Power does not have a long established support group. His support consists of this website, which is still being developed, and a small number of supporters.
Justice for James Power was established to ensure James receives publicity for his case.
We wish to see justice for both James and Graham. Both men are completely innocent, which we hope you will find out for yourselves by reading details of the case.
